ACCELERATORS AND INCUBATORS

Accelerators and Incubators are intensive "boot camp" style programs that are intended to help you start and grow your business. The aim of accelerators and incubators is to provide the resources you need to focus completely on growing your business. They tend to provide mentorship, workshops, networking opportunities and co-working spaces. Often, but not always, the program will also involve an investment program.

There is a great overlap between accelerators and incubators. The primary difference is that accelerators are intended to 'accelerate' existing companies while incubators are intended to 'incubate' innovative ideas into businesses.

GRANTS

Grants are programs that give money to individuals, organisations and/or projects. They do not need to be repaid nor do they require any other form of payment (such as equity). Grants often have very strict rules around what the money can be used on and how spending should be reported.

INVESTMENT PROGRAMS

Investment programs give money to individuals, organisations and/or projects with the intention of recouping the investment. This may take the form of the investment being treated as a loan that must be repaid with interest, or the investor receiving shares in the company.

MENTORSHIP AND SUPPORT PROGRAMS

This category encapsulates all resources that are intended to support games development and business growth but do not fall into the other categories.

This category includes mentorship programs, workshop series and information services. It also includes programs that can assist with the costs of game development, but do not classify as grants or investment programs.
